Ministry Training Center
A City Church Ministry
The Ministry Training Center (MTC) is a co-operative effort of the City Church of Kelso/Longview to train and equip people for ministry. It is our desire to see people who are called to ministry equipped to fulfill that call while being able to stay in the city.
The MTC is a non-traditional approach in the preparation for ministry. In the changing paradigm of the church today, there is a need to look at new, creative, and effective ways to train new leaders. As the church moves into a new millennium, we must look at how we have trained up leaders in the past and make adjustments for the future. The MTC is a cross denominational paradigm designed to bring out the best of each tradition and weave them into a City Church mindset that will look to co-operative effort to reach the city with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We call this non-traditional approach a "kingdom" mindset, rather than a "local-church" mindset.
A Non-Traditional Approach to Training
Many people have felt the call to ministry in some capacity, but don't have the time or resources to go to a traditional Bible school or seminary. The MTC is a great alternative and provides practical hands-on experience for students desiring to train in the context of the City Church. Students who complete the two-year program at the MTC will be prepared to lead a ministry, whether a house church, home group, small church, or an associate position.
Our values are to teach basic knowledge while immersing the student in ministry. There are a variety of classes ranging from traditional classroom settings to mentor/student relationships to practical experience. We see the church, not solely as a local entity, but regional, national, and global. Each student will be expected to participate in one short-term mission experience, a Leadership Prayer Summit, Servant Week, and any other gatherings or experiences that are determined to be appropriate in the preparation of each student to fulfill their call. Each quarter, every student will be paired with a mentor who will give guidance and practical insights into ministry.
